Somorrostro beach is about 522 meters long and located between the Gas breakwater and the Moll de Marina pier.

Among other values this beach exemplifies the recovery of historical memory on the city seafront. Not long ago, this stretch of coastline, together with part of Barcelonetabeach and the beaches now known as Nova Icària and Bogatell, was the site of the Somorrostro shanty town, where some 15,000 people lived in very precarious conditions. Somorrostro beach is currently one of the most emblematic beaches in the city.

Most people reach Somorrostro beach by public transport: it is located close to the Metro (Line L4, Barceloneta and Ciutadella) and also served by many bus lines (10, 14, 16, 17, 36, 39, 40, 45, 51, 57, 59 and 64) and the tram (line T4, stopping at Ciutadella-Vila Olímpica). And if you prefer to cycle there, you will find a cycle lane on the promenade and four Bicing stations nearby: Passeig Marítim 11 (in front of Plaça Brugada), Passeig Marítim 31B, Passeig Marítim 23 (Hospital del Mar) and Avinguda Litoral 22 (Hotel Arts).

Somorrostro beach provides easy access and enjoyment for everyone, with special attention paid to those whose mobility is limited in some way: the beach features parking areas from which it is easy to reach the dry beach, visual and tactile signage and information, adapted toilets, wooden walkways down to the water and adapted showers with chairs. The public transport has also been adapted to provide easier access.
